” Protect Your Family From Fire”

Do you and your family know what to do in the event of a fire?
Do you and your family have an escape plan?
...
Do you and your family have a safe meeting place outside your home in the event of a fire?
Have you practiced your escape plan?

If you have answered NO to any of these questions, take some time and sit down with your family and discuss it. It could mean the difference in an emergency.

For any emergency (police, ambulance, or fire) get to a safe place and dial 9-1-1

Things to remember:
(1) Check closed doors with the back of your hand for heat before opening them.
(2) If there is smoke – stay low and crawl underneath it, smoke rises and the best air is low.
(3) Once you are out of the building, DO NOT GO BACK INSIDE. Firefighters have special equipment and training that allow them to enter a building that is on fire – you don’t.
(4) If trapped inside a house, do not hide, get near a window and draw attention to yourself
(5) Make sure you have a working smoke detector in your home.
(6) Check your battery in your smoke detector twice a year (when the clocks change time).
(7) Check your household fire extinguisher the same time as the smoke detector, the needle should be in the green

As well, can the Fire Department find you? Please post your civic number so that we can find you quickly. Your civic sign should be close to the road at the end of your driveway (we have some long driveways in the subdivision) and in a location that it can be seen by Emergency Responders. The sign should be high enough that it can be seen in the winter time with all the snow down and in summer, not blocked by shrubs, trees, or other foilage. If you do not have a civic sign for you home you are in luck. Civic signs can be ordered at the Fire Station in BeaverBank on Tuesday nights, from 7PM to 8PM. They cost $15.00 each.

Stay Safe, Play Safe.
